The Antipodeans Abroad UniBreak Program is a unique opportunity for tertiary age students, 18 years and over, to combine travel with meaningful volunteer work in developing countries. UniBreak is a fantastic way to experience the world beyond the backpacker hostel - live with local people while you immerse yourself in their culture and participate in a sustainable project for the benefit of the local community.
Destinations and Dates
You can choose from 8 destinations in Asia, South America and Africa. There are a number of departure dates in November, January or June for each destination and students may volunteer for 4-12 weeks duration from one of these dates. Set departure dates ensure you will travel in small groups generally of 5-15 volunteers from across Australia. Volunteer with a great support network, meet new people and have instant travel companions.
Project Work
Volunteers may choose to work in one of the following grassroots community development areas:
• Community Health
• Building and Construction
• Teaching English
• Caring for Orphans
• Environmental Conservation
• Working with Street Kids
• Sports Coaching
• Community Work with non-government organisations
You will be expected to work 5 days per week and 6-8 hours per day depending on the destination. Your weekends are free for you to explore the local area.
Accommodation
Each destination has different project work and accommodation options including volunteer share houses and home stays. Students are generally placed in pairs in local home stays and student travelling together can request to be placed with the same family. Accommodation is basic, but comfortable and clean.

Things are going fantastically here. Teaching is great. The kids had been learning some English prior to our arrival but the ability to sing the alphabet was all they had to show for it. However they are quickly making progress, which is great to see. In the afternoons we have been doing some construction and tree planting at the school. Monday is Indian Independence Day and the kids have been rehearsing for a concert for the village which we eagerly await!

Priceless memories. You have to experience it... words can't explain.
