Teaching English
Volunteers will be living in Udaipur and teaching at the local schools in small tribal villages. Many of the schools have up to 100 children with only 2 teachers. You will be assisting those teachers in daytime activities This assistance not only eases the over worked teachers but it also adds to the educational experience of the children.
The volunteers' main responsibilities include:
• Teaching Basic English and math skills
• Creating a fun and playful environment with games
• Working with teachers to create low cost material aids
• Monitoring student attendance

The children at the schools are from the local villages. These villages are very rural and basic, but wonderfully colourful. It is also possible to volunteer in day care centers. These centers cater for children aged 2-3 from the tribal villages. Children attend the day care centres to receive medical assistance such as vaccinations, lunch and simple education.

ABOUT INDIA
India is one of the most diverse cultures in the world. Its fascinating mix of religions, festivals, temples, bazaars, exotic and colourful people and beautiful landscapes make it a compelling country. Most families are Hindu. Volunteers have plenty of opportunity to learn about Hinduism. Families tend to go to the temple once a week and volunteers are usually invited to join. Many people have an altar of some description in their homes, devoted to their god/guru of choice, where they can perform/practice pooja (worship). Rajasthan is one of the most exotic states of India famous for its forts and palaces, colourful festivals, people and music.
