Visit Halong Bay, referred to as the 8th Wonder of the World, a breathtaking bay with over 3,000 limestone islands rising from the clear emerald waters. Visit Cat Ba island and the caves including one that served as a secret bomb-proof hospital during the American War. Tour the capital, Hanoi including Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum and museum, the Temple of Literature, the first national university of Vietnam dedicated to Confucius and the Army Museum.
Travel south to the Demilitarised Zone, an area with a high military presence during the Amercian War and sights such as Hamburger Hill and the Khe Sanh Combat base. Then to Hue, home of the splendid tombs of the Nguyen emperors and the site of the bloodiest battles on the 1968 Tet Offfensive. Visit the Hue Citadel including the Forbidden Purple City, which was almost totally destroyed during the Tet Offensive. Visit ‘My Son’ in Danang, Vietnam’s UNESCO World Heritage Cham site and where the kingdom of Champa flourished from the 2nd -15th centuries. Visit China Beach and continue on to Hoi An; a thriving international trading port between the 17th and 19th centuries although today a very picturesque historic town.
Travel then to Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) and tour the former Presidential Palace, fascinating War Remnants Museum, and legendary Cu Chi tunnels. This network of over 200 kms of tunnels played a vital part in the American War. Today the remaining tunnels give the visitor a unique experience and a feel for what underground life was like during the American War. Vietnam could possibly be combined with a tour of the worlds most spectacular temples at Angkor in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
