Kenya

Work as part of a team of volunteers on the stunning east coast of Africa. Renowned for its wildlife and Maasai village tribes, you will be able to experience the varied Kenyan landscapes from tropical coastal life to the red dirt of the safari plains. Get involved in a range of volunteer projects including building, teaching, agricultural projects and initiatives to protect wildlife and the environment.

PROJECT WORK
Base yourself in a purpose built camp, one hour south of coastal town of Mombassa. Situated in the heart of the local community, get to know the local children who walk you to your project work everyday. Travel to three other camps during your placement, experiencing a safari game drive, and coastal marine projects along the way.

The project work will be varied and includes construction work at the local school, teaching English, conservation, agricultural work, building of sports facilities and improving teaching materials.

ACCOMMODATION
As you move from camp to camp, you will stay in a variety of accommodation from hard built thatched roof huts to local style bandas and large domed tents. All beds are equipped with comfortable mattresses, pillows and mosquito nets. Eat your meals in the large communal eating area, sip hot chocolate in the afternoon and play pool under the stars.

FREE TIME SUGGESTIONS
In your free time you can choose to do activities such as climbing Mount Kenya, Mount Kilimanjaro, big game fishing, kite surfing, scuba diving, trekking and mountain biking. The nearest beach to the camp is a short, 15 minute drive through the bush, were you can participate in adventure sports and, of course, some well-earned chill-out time.

Unibreak dates & prices

All in all, I couldn’t recommend the unibreak program enough. I had so many opportunities to try different things while I was there that I don’t think would have been possible had I decided to simply travel through Kenya under my own steam.
