Peru

The most famous of Peru’s sights is Machu Picchu, situated near Cusco. The four-day Inca Trail hike will have adventurous travellers trekking through the Andes to the famous site. Cusco is the archaeological capital of the Americas and the oldest continuously inhabited city. It is 3,326 metres above sea level so it may take a few days to acclimatise. Cusco is a beautiful city with cobbled street, markets and ornate churches.

UNIVERSITY FACULTY PROJECTS
UniBreak Groups in Peru may teach English, participate in construction, community and social work as part of community initiated project in the Cusco region.

Education
Teaching opportunities are based in schools in Cusco. Kids range from 6-14 years old with a very basic level of English. Volunteers are required to teach in either the morning or the afternoon for around 5/6 hours a day.

Community Work
There are opportunities for construction work building a community school on the outskirts of Cusco. Orientation in Cusco includes Spanish classes as well as free time to explore and acclimatise.

ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation is available in safe and comfortable homestays. The family will speak little to no English and it is highly recommended that volunteers learn some basic Spanish prior to their placement. This will help you converse and improve over the placement period. Separate accommodation can be arranged for supervisors on request.

Inclusions (faculty groups only):
Return international airfares
Accommodation during placement
Food during placement
Antipodeans Training Workshop
In-country meet & greet, airport transfers, orientation and transport
Placement and screened community project
Support by In-Country Agent
24 hr back-up by Antipodeans Abroad in Australia

The three months that I was lucky enough to spend in Peru was comfortably one of the most challenging experiences of my life to date. However, these challenges paled in comparison to what I was able to learn about life outside of Sydney, Australia, to the brilliant local people that I met and the culture that I experienced.
