Cambodia

Cambodia is a small country nestled between Vietnam to the east, Laos to the north and Thailand to the east. The Mekong river flows through Phnom Penh, the capital city whilst the Gulf of Thailand lies to the south, allowing Cambodia some of the most beautiful beaches in the region. Cambodia has a tumultuous past that is well documented yet has been safe for travellers for over a decade now. Siem Reap is a busy hub in the north west of Cambodia, towards the Thai border and has a population of a little over 100,000. There is a huge amount to do at weekends including visits to the Angkor temple park, Tonle Sap and beaches to the south.

UNIVERSITY FACULTY PROJECTS

Education
Skilled volunteers may teach English to children and young adults, or be involved in health education programs.

Health
Community health placements in Cambodia are based in Siem Reap and allow
students to work as volunteers with local NGO’s, hospitals and clinics to gain valuable
knowledge and understanding of health care in a resource-poor setting.

ACCOMMODATION
UniBreak Groups may live in guesthouse accommodation in the heart of Siem Reap. The guesthouse has recently been renovated and is a very colourful, clean and safe environment to live in. Breakfast and dinner will be provided yet there are plenty of laid back restaurants close by serving tasty Khmer and Thai cuisine. Volunteers also have the use of bicycles to get around the town and to and from work.

Inclusions (for faculty groups only):

  • Return international airfares
  • Accommodation during placement
  • Food during placement
  • Antipodeans Training Workshop
  • In-country meet & greet, airport transfers, orientation and transport
  • Placement and screened community project
  • Support by In-Country Agent
  • 24 hr back-up by Antipodeans Abroad in Australia

The best part of working with Antipodeans Abroad was seeing the joy that simple measures, such as soap, can bring to people’s lives. You are humbled beyond belief when you realise what these people survive on, like the mothers who look after 7 children with no income, they are the real heroines.
