TEACHING, COMMUNITY WORK, CONSTRUCTION

Ever fancied a gap year in South America? How about living next door to one of the world’s more famous sights, the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu? Then our Peru placement could be what you’re looking for. You will live 3,326 meters above sea level in the beautiful city of Cusco, renowned for its cobbled streets, markets and ornate churches. Get comfortable with a week long orientation including daily Spanish lessons.

VOLUNTEER PROJECTS
Teach English in Peru surrounded by the natural beauty of the Sacred Valley. You will also have the chance to conduct sports and arts and craft lessons. The local children range from 6-14 years old with a very basic level of English, so lesson plans will need to be creative to suit these needs. School runs until midday, so use your afternoons to explore Cusco, practice your Spanish and soak in all the entertainment the city offers.

The building projects in Peru focus on the school community, such as helping construct new classrooms, kitchens and vegetable plots. Help these disadvantaged communities support themselves through sustainable and rewarding project work.

Keen to teach English in South America? You can also check out our Argentina, Ecuador and Brazil programs.

ACCOMMODATION
Become a true local and live with a traditional Peruvian family. All our volunteers are housed in safe and comfortable local homes near Cusco with two volunteers per household. The family will speak little to no English and it is highly recommended that you learn some basic Spanish prior to working as a volunteer in South America. Your host family is the heart of your placement, and you will find yourself part of this Peruvian family for years to come!

GapBreak Dates & Prices

After finishing Year 12 there was no way I wanted to go straight into another 4 years of University. Antipodeans Abroad let me escape from study for a year and have an amazing experience in Peru. I learned some Spanish, taught a class of the cutest grade 5’s, and was looked after by an amazing Peruvian family.
