TEACHING, COMMUNITY WORK

Famous for Mount Everest, Nepal is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Swift running rivers flow from the Himalayas in the north, while flat green plains decorate the south of Nepal. Experience a simple way of life, living with traditional families who rely on their own small crop to provide the bulk of their food. Walk to your placement each day at the local school, and teach English to a classroom of Nepali children.

VOLUNTEER PROJECTS
You will be placed in local schools teaching English to students from Sunday to Friday. Since many of the government schools are short-staffed, you may also have the opportunity to help teach subjects such as mathematics, environmental science or computers. Nepali schools lack basic school supplies, so creativity is a must when planning lessons.

Living in such a community allows you to immerse yourself in a culture very different to your own and experience life in a traditional Nepali family, something you cannot do as a regular tourist. As part of the placement, you may have the opportunity to help with construction, conservation and community projects.

ACCOMMODATION
Volunteers will be placed in pairs and will live with local Nepali families. This is a great way to get to know the local community and live life the traditional way. You are encouraged to learn some of the language whilst you are living with your family. Accommodation will be comfortable and clean but basic.

GapBreak Dates and Prices

Living in Nepal I saw some really wonderful things, things that would never happen in Australia or anywhere else. I grew so fond of my host family and all my students. That one of the hardest parts of the whole placement - leaving!
