TUTORING ENGLISH

Immerse yourself in one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations, a melting pot of rich and eclectic culture. With iconic tourist sites such as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Notre Dame and Moulin Rouge, France is a mecca for travellers from around the world. The GapBreak placement in France is suited for those looking to sharpen your French speaking skills, and really become part of another culture.

Begin your placement with a 1-week intensive French course in Paris, where you can savour the world famous food before beginning your placement with a French host family.

VOLUNTEER PROJECTS
In France, you will be tutoring English to children and adults in your French host family. Classes are conducted in an informal way, from conversational and written English to games for the younger children, depending on the requirement of the families.

You will be teaching approximately 15 hours per week, the time of day again determined by the host family. Placements are available all over France, from north to south in beautiful areas of the country. Jump on the train and meet up with other GapBreak volunteers, exploring new towns and cities. No previous experience of French is required although it is preferable.

A 1-week intensive French course in Paris kick-starts your France placement. This course includes 19 hours of French classes per week, 3 hours in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. In your free time, head out and get to know Paris, with visits to the Le Louvre, Musee d’Orsay or Bateaux Mouches.

ACCOMMODATION
Become part of the every-day lives of your French host-family. You will have your own room and the homes will be similar to what you are used to in Australia. The purpose of the program is not just to tutor English but also a cultural immersion, spending time with a French family, getting to know their way of life and exploring the local area.

GapBreak Dates and Prices

Several of us have also been offered the exciting opportunity to visit local junior high schools and answer questions on life in Australia. “There are like, crocodiles and snakes and spiders just living in your backyard, right?” I think all of us are looking forward to answering such questions in front of the prying eyes of thirty or more French students.
