TEFL COURSE, PAID TEACHING WORK

Teach English in China whilst immersing yourself in one of the world’s oldest continuous civilisations. China’s unique culture, art, history and rapid development make it a very exciting destination to explore. Base yourself in the thriving metropolis of Beijing before relocating to a Chinese school in a regional city and sharpening your English teaching skills. This placement runs for six months, giving you time to experience the real China.

VOLUNTEER PROJECTS

The placement starts with a 1-month TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) course in Beijing, a recognised accreditation for teaching English abroad. There is a huge demand for English teachers overseas and this course will provide you with some excellent knowledge and theory of teaching English as well as practical information.

You will complete the theory side of the course with other international students, studying and exploring all that Beijing has to offer. Settle in at your orientation workshop and learn all about Chinese culture, including a day tour of Beijing. During your course make sure you jump onboard the weekend excursions to the Great Wall and beyond.

For the next 5 months put theory into practice in a Chinese school. You will be allocated work at a kindergarten, primary, high school or post secondary school. Remembering these teaching posts are paid placements, you will be required to teach a certain number of hours each week and spend at least a similar amount of time preparing lessons. If you’re independent, responsible, committed and have the ability to adjust to a new environment – then China is for you.

HOW MUCH AM I PAID?
Whilst teaching English in China, you will be paid 2000RMB (approx AUD$340) per month plus 2500RMB on completion of a semester. All food and accommodation is covered through your placement, so this is purely spending money.

ACCOMMODATION
During the first month of your placement, you will be living in student accommodation in Beijing, mixing with other international volunteers. Rooms are dormitory style and are clean and comfortable, with food provided by the university. During the next five months you will live in the teacher’s accommodation, either shared apartments or twin share rooms.
