SUMMER CAMPS, SPORTS, LEADERSHIP

Working as a staff member at a Canadian summer camp is a uniquely rewarding experience. You will have the opportunity to combine working with children, spending summer months in the stunning Canadian outdoors, and meeting fellow staff members from around the world! Campers are aged between 7 and 16 years and all learn a variety of skills from sports, outdoor pursuits and leadership skills.

PLACEMENTS
There are a number of work positions for you to apply for. They vary according to the camp where you will be working, your age and the skills you have.

1. Camp Counsellor
As a counsellor, you are the supervisor - “big sister or brother" - of a small group of campers. Typically, you live with the kids, accompany them to activities, help lead them on canoe trips and other outings, supervise them at meals, and generally look out for their well-being. For many children one of the most important and memorable parts of their camp is their Counsellors, their enthusiasm and the close bond that is formed between them.. You will not only work alongside fellow staff, but you get to know them, enjoy the kids and the activities with them, laugh with them, and share good times with them in ways that few other opportunities in life allow.

2. Activity Specialist

Every day is divided into a number of activity sessions, from sports to arts. You role will involve supervising, instructing and maintaining the facility and the equipment. Some of the activites campers will participate in include:

  • Watersports: Canoeing, waterskiing, windsurfing, kayaking and swimming
  • Land sports: basketball, soccer, softball, beach volleyball, archery, tennis
  • Arts: theatre, arts and crafts, woodwork, music recording and video productions
  • Adventure: canoeing, rope and climbing walls, fishing and outdoor fun

ACCOMMODATION
As a camp staff member, you will most likely stay in a cabin with 8-10 young campers, responsible for their welbeing and day to day routine. Alternatively you will stay in staff quarters on the camp premises in dorm room style accommodation.

DO I GET PAID?
All positions at summer camps are paid. Generally employees will receive approximately $100 Canadian Dollars per week as a small allowance. All food and lodging is covered. For those with specialist skills they can earn more, depending on the camp.
