Vietnam

Vietnam is one of the most popular destinations for Antipodeans Abroad Expedition teams. It never fails to thrill the traveller with its unique sights, sounds, tastes and smells. Culturally and historically, Vietnam is a labyrinth waiting to be explored. Students are able to book much of their transport, tours and accommodation and choose from countless cheap restaurants as they travel. This, mixed with worthwhile community projects and outstanding trekking, means Vietnam fits perfectly with the leadership and community service objectives of the Expedition program.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

  • Projects are based in or around Hanoi
  • Teams may be involved in the following activities:
    - Helping out in schools and orphanages
    - Painting classrooms
    - Renovating kitchens, installing water tanks or paths
    - Building desks or book shelves for libraries
  • Students will be surrounded by the local children who are eager to learn more English and play games, particularly badminton and soccer

TREKS

  • The northwest highlands around Sapa provide the venue for some spectacular trekking
  • Teams travel through local villages where ethnic hill tribe people live
  • Teams stay in local homestays
  • Students gain a real understanding of life for these ethnic hill tribe people of Vietnam
  • Students are given an opportunity to taste amazing and authentic Vietnamese food provided by host families

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Hanoi’s famous Old Quarter, numerous museums
  • Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum
  • Sapa’s local market and traditional cloth or jewellery
  • Halong Bay for unforgettable sunsets
  • Ancient tombs and citadels
  • Hue, the old Imperial Capital and UNESCO World Heritage site
  • Hoi An for architecture, delicious food, great markets and a relaxing beach
  • Cu Chi Tunnels
  • Cholon District in Saigon

Sample Itinerary

I would just like to say on behalf of my husband and myself for organising such a fabulous trip for our daughter and her colleagues, she had a ball!! She hasn’t stopped talking about the whole trip and since the photos have come back we’re completely absorbed in her whole expedition. She’s made us all very envious of her experiences and only wish we could have gone too.
