Morocco

Morocco is the classic North African experience. The medieval towns of Marakesh and Fez provide insight into the feudal history of this beautiful Islamic country. The Berber tribes offer an extremely peaceful and friendly cultural immersion experience highlighting many fascinating differences with the Western world. The mountains and desert also provide a landscape to be marvelled at.

The High Atlas Mountains and Sahara Desert are an absolute must for any Antipodeans Abroad team. Both landscapes provide options for spectacular trekking and for community projects in village schools with the Berber people.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

  • Cultural exchange with a Berber community in the Atlas Mountains or in the Sahara Desert
  • Community projects can involve construction, renovation and decoration of village schools, including fixing new doors and windows, plastering and painting classrooms, renovating bathroom facilities

TREKS

  • World-class mountain trekking in the High Atlas, teams can attempt a summit on Jebel Toubkal (the highest mountain in North Africa - 4,167m), staying in mountain huts and refuges.
  • Multi-day challenging desert treks through the Sahara Desert such as an overland journey to Erg Chebbi, the enormous sand dune made famous in the film Lawrence of Arabia

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Fez, Meknes and Marrakesh, with their bazaars and souqs, allow teams to enjoy the food, markets and history of Morocco
  • The amazing Roman ruins can be visited at Volubilis
  • The fasinating Berber people are kind, peaceful and welcoming
  • High Atlas Mountains, Sahara Desert, Todra and Dades Gorge

 Sample Itinerary

I had the best time ever! I loved the independence of finding accommodation, transport, food etc for ourselves while knowing there were adults to help out if something goes wrong. I gained confidence in being able to do things myself.
