Laos

Landlocked by Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, China and Myanmar, Laos is a country with a turbulent past but one that is steadily moving forward into a bright future. Now a peaceful and beautiful country with World Heritage-listed cities and temples, hospitable people and remote mountains for trekking, Laos holds much for the first time visitor. Expedition teams can look forward to elephants rides, Mekong River boat trips, the beautiful city of Luang Prabang, limestone caves, traditional Laotian villages, processions of saffron-robed monks and fantastic night markets.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

  • Projects are generally based in the former royal capital of Luang Prabang
  • Visit Buddhist temples before and/or after the project
  • Project may include helping in children’s centres and local schools, teaching English, reading books and playing games with local children

TREKS

  • Trekking takes place in the remote mountains of Laos, in the Nam Pha province
  • The area is abundant in wildlife and has spectacular rugged terrain
  • Laos is still a quiet country, relatively free of tourists
  • This provides a authentic experience for travellers
