Kenya

The amazing African continent is an explorer's dream. Travel to Kenya and marvel at the  'Big 5' in the Masai Mara’s shimmering heat, gaze over the snowy peaks of Mount Kenya and smile at the perfect white beaches of the east coast.

An Antipodeans Abroad Expedition to Kenya offers physical challenges, cultural diversity, community projects and amazing game viewing safaris. The community projects are well managed and organised to provide a truly worthwhile experience with the chance to make a long-term difference.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

  • Village-based community projects, along the beaches of the east coast, south of Mombasa, involve construction and renovation of schools, conservation work and teaching
  • Students and teachers live in safari style camps, are immersed in the culture and learn conversational Swahilli during their stay
  • Interaction with local kids involves football every lunchtime and house visits

TREKS

  • Trek up Point Lenana on Mount Kenya, 4 to 5 days, sleeping in good huts
  • This 4,985m peak offers a challenging trek that often culminates in a snowy finish as the sun rises over the African plains below

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Trek Mt. Kenya (4,985m)
  • Cultural immersion with Masai people and at the village project
  • Wildlife safari - the Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Amboseli, Tsavo East & West
  • The overnight train from Nairobi to Mombasa is comfortable, safe and a scenic journey
  • Beaches located along the East Coast and the Indian Ocean

Sample Itinerary

The roles that we undertook among the group has also shown me that I am interested in medics, and being a leader was a challenge that I thoroughly enjoyed. This expedition was amazing, and I have come away from it with amazing memories, friends and inspiration.
