Cambodia

Cambodia is home to the Angkor Temples at the heart of the old Khmer Empire. In addition to this, attractions include slow boats on the Mekong River, the brilliant beaches of Sihanoukville and quiet villages with local markets. Siem Reap and Battambang provide memorable travel experiences - the temples at Angkor are one of the great sights of the ancient world. A visit to the vibrant capital Phnom Penh may include a trip to S21 and the Killing Fields, two places synonymous with Cambodia’s darker days.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

  • Projects are generally based outside Siem Reap
  • Involves work building a local community school where none existed previously
  • Renovating building and improving classroom facilities as well as raising funds to provide teachers and resources for the village school
  • This school was previously a farming family's house taken over by the Khmer Rouge in the late 1970’s with only a couple of the children surviving
  • Students would help in children’s centres and local schools, teach English, read books and play games with local children
TREKS AND BIKING

  • Trekking takes place in the remote mountains
  • Biking can be an option, especially around Tonle Sap Lake
  • Both options allow students to experience the abundant wildlife and spectacular rugged terrain
  • Provides a fantastic way to interact with the local communities
HIGHLIGHTS

  • Elephant treks
  • Boat trip on the Mekong
  • S21 and the Killing Fields
  • Angkor Wat
  • Khmer temples

Sample Itinerary

Since the company emphasises security and safety procedures in its pre-training of all participants, leaders, teachers and students alike, we have complete confidence in their ability to handle an emergency. In fact we have experienced it 'first hand'. Finally our students love the trips - there is such variety of activities to cater for all their interests.
