Rebecca Bull, GapBreak, India
My experience in India was amazing and I would not trade it for any other. I LOVED IT! At the start of Year 12 I decided that I wanted to do something different with my life! I wanted to give to people and travel at the same time and that's when I heard about Antipodeans Abroad. After much thought I chose India as my GapBreak destination. Why you might ask? Because it was the country the would push me out of my comfort zone and test my boundaries. So after a year of planning and preparation, I was off to India!
I learnt a lot living in India for three months. I learnt a different way of life, a new culture and I learnt to look at the world differently. Mostly I learnt a lot about myself and who I was as a person. India has definitely changed my life. I also learnt patience, as things don't always work or arrive on time in India, and a whole lot more respect and how to be an intrepid traveller.
My favourite part of my placement was definitely the teaching! I taught at a day care center and the kids were amazing. I loved them. It was so rewarding to see them grow and become more confident with basic English. As well as teaching I loved living in the volunteer house and being able to share the experience with lots of others people. Did I mentioned the taj mahal?! I definitely recommend doing a placement with Antipodeans Abroad - especially India!
